A look at famous bridges in the US
There are many famous bridges in the United States. For starters let me tell you about the Brooklyn Bridge. This bridge was designed by John A. and Washington Roebling in 1867 and completed in 1883. The Brooklyn Bridge is 272 feet in height and 6016 feet in length. The Bridge is located at East River,Park Row, Manhattan to Adams Street, Brooklyn. This bridge is a highly recognizable icon. The bridges prototype was a similar but smaller structure over the Ohio River at Cincinnati. The Gothic towers are constructed entirely of granite and the roadway platform is hung on two inch diameter steel suspenders strung from two pairs of cables. The catenaries range sixteen inches in diameter. Each of the bridges cable is composed of 5,296 galvanized steel wires. Each of the cables is able to hold a live load of 12,000 tons.
Next there is the Golden Gate Bridge. This bridge was designed by Joseph Baermann Strauss around 1930 and completed on May 27, 1937.The Golden Gate Bridge is 750 feet in height and 2742.9 meters in length. The initial plans for this bridge showed a cantilever type structure which bared little resemblance to the final design. The project evolved into the now familiar single suspension span. The Golden Gate Bridge faced 12 years of opposition from ferryboat workers. They feared for their livelihoods. The military leaders and shippers were thinking the bridge would bottle up the harbor. In the end the bridge was completed after it got the approval from six coastal counties.
The next bridge i am going to talk about is the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is located in Sydney Harbour, Australia and designed by Dr. J.J.C Bradfield. He began construction of this bridge in 1925; and the bridge opened on March 19, 1932. It measures 134 meters in height and 1149 meters in length. This bridge was made of steel and contains 6 million hand driven rivets. This bridge has huge hinges to absorb the expansion caused by the hot hot sun in Sydney. This bridge is the world’s largest steel arch bridge. Because this bridge is located in a beautiful harbour it has become the international symbol of Australia.
The next bridge is the Tsing Ma Bridge located in Hong Kong. The architects are unknown at this time. This bridge began its construction in May 1992 and completed in May 1997. This bridge is internationally known and a major Hong Kong landmark. The main span of this bridge is 1,377 meters in height and 206 meters tall. This is the only bridge carrying both road and railway.
In conclusion i could go on and on about famous bridges but that would probably take to much of your time so i will end here. If you travel to any of these places go ride across the bridges and see just how they are.
How to handle long airport layovers – Part 1

Delays, flight cancellations and overcrowding leave lots of travelers stranded at the airport for hours at a time. An airport layover can feel like a jail sentence, but it doesn’t have to be all bad. Here are some ideas for how to pass the time during your next layover no matter where in the world you’re traveling.
1) Practice your swing
Next time you’re flying through Hong Kong, grab your putter. The airport in Hong Kong has SkyCity nine Eagles Golf Course. The course is just a free, five minute shuttle ride away from Terminal 2.
2) Take a walk
Nothing leaves you feeling like you ened to stretch your legs like a few hours on an airplane. Take advantage of the layover-courtesy hours by taking a walk around the terminal. You’ll get some exercise, stretch your legs, and get a feel for the lay of the terminal so you can plan what you’d like to do next.
3) Order takeout
Tired of airplane food? No problem if you’re at JetBlue’s Terminal 5 at JFK. Sidle up to one of the 208 Re:vive kiosks, dial up the menu and order anything you like. The orders take about 12 minutes on average, and there are tables to sit and enjoy your meal.
4) Play video games
Let your inner teen run wild on your next layover. Travelers that find their way through Paris can try their hand at Grand Theft Auto or Sonic the Hedgehog. Charles de Gaulle airport has three PlayStation 3 areas and a few PlayStation 2 areas. The Changi airport in Singapore has a similar set-up. There is an entertainment area with an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
5) Get a little pampering
It’s no secret that traveling is stressful business, especially if traveling incorporates a few unscheduled layovers. Xpress Spa is in 14 airports across the U.S., and you can choose from a foot massage, masks, and even a “gentleman’s facial.” What more could you want? Except, of course, for your flight to be on time.
6) Lounge away
Airport lounges aren’t just for the lucky few anymore. Lots of lounges offer temporary passes for the luxury lounges. You can buy a three-hour pass for the lounge in LAX, for example, for $25. Once, there you’ll enjoy free snacks and wi-fi. Even better? That long layover will just fly by while you’ve got your feet up.
7) Get some work done
If you still have time after the video games and the massage, you still might be able to fit a little work in. Most airports have wi-fi and plenty of places to sit and get a little work done before your flight arrives.

Thinking of places to enjoy a golfing vacation adventure and go somewhere exotic
Consider Thailand as a Golf Vacation destination and you will never forget your experience and the adventure.
In this article I will be talking to you about Bangkok Golf Vacations in particular, although there are hundreds of golf courses throughout Thailand.
First a little about Thailand from Wikipedia. Thailand is home to several distinct geographic regions, partly corresponding to the provincial groups.
The north of the country is mountainous, with the highest point being Doi Inthanon at 2,576 meters (8,451ft.).
The northeast consists of the Khorat Plateau, bordered to the east by the Mekong river. The centre of the country is dominated by the predominantly flat Chao Phraya River valley, which runs into the Gulf of Thailand.
The south consists of the narrow Kra Isthmus that widens into the Malay Peninsula.
The local climate is tropical and characterized by monsoons. There is a rainy, warm, and cloudy southwest monsoon from mid-May to September, as well as a dry, cool northeast monsoon from November to mid-March.
The southern isthmus is always hot and humid. Major cities beside the capital Bangkok include Nakhon Ratchasima, Udon Thani, Nakhon Sawan, Chiang Mai, Surat Thani, Phuket, and Hat Yai, in Songhla Province.
Bangkok, known in Thai as Krung Thep, is the capital and largest city of Thailand, with an official census population of over 10 million. Bangkok is located on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River, near the Gulf of Thailand.
Its also in the World Book of Records for the longest named city, Krung Thep is abbreviated.
Bangkok is one of the fastest growing, most economically dynamic cities in Southeast Asia. It is emerging as a regional center to rival Singapore and Hong Kong.
The World Meteorological Organization has dubbed Bangkok the world’s hottest large city. Moreover, it is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. Bangkok is also known for relatively low retail prices.
Bangkok is the place to visit for breathtakingly beautiful temples, magnificent palaces, Thai dancers, Thai kickboxing, museums, and island hopping, with

So, besides the enjoyment of your golfing vacation, you will also be able to enjoy the visit to Bangkok, Thailand in many other ways, not the least of, which is the fantastic Bangkok nightlife and world-class hotels at rates you won’t believe.
All in all, a golf vacation to Thailand is more than just an average golfing vacation, it’s an adventure to remember.
Lets talk about some of the particular Golf Clubs and Golf Courses in Bangkok.
Windmill Park Golf & Country Club: Designed by Nick Faldo, this 18-Hole, Par 72, golf course is very challenging from the back tees. It features a lot of water for most of the entire course and the Par 5 holes are all doglegs. The last hole is probably the biggest challenge where you have to hit onto an island where the clubhouse is also located.
Bangpoo Country Club: This 18 hole course was designed by Arnold Palmer and is one of the most popular golf vacation destinations. It is located about 60 miles southeast of Bangkok. You will not contend with as much water as you will on the Windmill course but wind will be a factor in your golf game at Bangpoo. Wide Fairways make the course a little easier for the average golfer.
Vintage Golf Clubs: There is a lot more here than just golf. It features a glamorous clubhouse with tennis courts, a swimming pool, and even a fitness center. This 18 hole, Par 72 golf course was designed by Arthur Hills and is a rather flat course. However the greens, fairways, and water hazards are well placed. The Par 5 holes will give any golfer the challenge they are looking for and the 18th hole is especially challenging with a narrow green sporting water on two sides.
Bangpakong Riverside Country Club: Built by the Bangpakong River, this 18 hole course presents unique challenges for golfers at any skill level. The river intertwines through the golf course and into some of the greens themselves.
It sports thick rough areas even though the fairways are wide. Golfers will also have to contend with strong winds in addition to the obvious water hazards.
Thana City Golf & Country Club: This Golf Club is located along the Bangna-Trad Highway. A beautiful course designed by Greg Norman gives golfers a chance to play holes of varying skill levels.
There are Par 4, 300 yard holes up to Par 4, 440 yard holes. Very fast greens make this golf course a real challenge.
Dynasty Golf & Country Club: Designed by Dennis Griffiths, Dynasty is an 18-hole golf course about an hour-and-a-half drive from Bangkok. The greens are well placed and the course is fairly flat.
There are creeks that provide good water hazards and the trees and flowers that surround this beautiful golf course are something to be admired.
Subhapruek Golf Club: (Formerly Bangna Country Club). The name, Subhapruek, was given to the golf course by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 1995 and means Beautiful Plants.
This golf course is one of the most beautiful courses in Thailand. Every single one of the 18 holes was designed by Pete Dye as a signature hole. The course presents physical and mental challenges that rival the best golf courses in the world.
Natural Park Ramindra Golf Course: (Formerly Winsan Golf Club until taken over by the Natural Group in 1992) Designed by Jack Niclaus, this 18-hole golf course features holes with sandy wastes, water hazards, and bunkers.
Like any golf course designed by Jack Niclaus, it presents challenges golfers at all skill levels can enjoy. It is located near Safari World, about and hour drive from Bangkok.
These are only a few of the golf courses in and around Bangkok, Thailand. You will enjoy exploring to find other courses such as those I will recommend below. A trip to Thailand for a golf vacation is one you will never forget.
Other recommended Golf courses you can search for online before booking your Bangkok, Thailand golf vacation.
Green Valley Golf Club, Rose Garden Golf Club, Kiarti Thanee Country Club, Royal Gems Golf & Sports Club, Krisda City Golf Club, President Golf & Country Club, Krung Kavee Golf Club, Pinehurst Golf & Country Club, Lakewood Golf & Country Club, Panya Indra Golf Club, Lum Luk Ka Golf Club, and Navatanee Golf Club.
Note from the author:
Although there are many excellent choices, my personal favorite is Pinehurst Golf & Country Club, minutes from Don Mueng International Airport, great accommodations in a country setting , excellent service with a smile, and moderately priced to fit within your budget.
Just watch out for the water traps. I’ve donated 100’s of golf balls over the years.
Festive China
Traditional Chinese festivals range from the quiet and dignified to colourful free-for-alls with booming gongs and cymbals and frantic dancers in dragon and lion costumes. Most are based on the Chinese lunar calendar and so the actual date differs from year to year.
Confucius’s birthday
First we’ll look at the birthday of Confucius in September. Though celebrated all over China, you can best experience this event in Confucius’s home of Qufu, specifically at the Confucius Temple.
Confucius is revered in China for being a thinker, social philosopher and teacher. He spent his life in poverty and relative obscurity, and his teachings were only written down and disseminated by his disciples after his death.
Celebrations for Confucius’s birthday start at 4 a.m. in the Confucius temple. Ceremonies are modest as befitting a man who taught moderation. Celebrants pay their respects and offer flowers at the temple altars. Festivities can also include musical performances with traditional instruments, together with dancing and the wearing of traditional costumes.
Beijing International Kite
Now to Beijing for an event of a very different kind, the Beijing International Kite Festival held in April, the windiest month in the Chinese capital. Kite flying has been a part of Chinese culture for millennia both as a leisure activity and a tool in warfare. Wei Fang in Shandong province is the major kite flying area in China but Beijing holds an annual international kite festival.
Starting off with a colourful ceremony, the Beijing International Kite Festival showcases fine examples of kites from the last century and experts talk about their features and regale visitors with kite lore and anecdotes. The event attracts kite-flying teams from all over the world.
Chinese New Year
Finally to Hong Kong to the biggest bash in the Chinese festival calendar, Chinese New Year. It’s a time of wailing Chinese opera performances, pounding drums, fireworks and feasts, writhing lions and dancing dragons, fortune telling and grand parades.
Chinese New Year starts on the first new moon day of the year and ends with the Lantern Festival fourteen days later. It falls between mid-January and mid-February. It’s a time when the industrious Chinese put their feet up for a few days of family reunion, thanksgiving, feasting and going to temple. People clean their homes and hang red lanterns out front. Veneration of ancestors is at the heart of Chinese New Year. On New Year’s Eve, they are offered a Banquet at the family dinner table.
In Hong Kong the festival kicks off with a parade between Admiralty and Wanchai, a grand firework display over Victoria Harbour, and the territory’s skyscrapers are lit up more than usual and decorated with lights and motifs. The temples are busy and the red envelopes known as Lai See containing “lucky money” are given to family and friends.
If you’re lucky enough to be in China on festival day, you have a treat in store. Not only will you have a great deal of fun, but you’ll witness something very special in the lives of the people. The only difficulty with visiting the events in Canada might be your accommodation. Be sure to have a reservation, because Beijing hotels or Hong Kong hotels could be fully booked during the festivals. Of course the Internet offers many opportunities to book China hotels in advance.
Food Districts
Speak of Hong Kong and you can’t avoid talking about the many food districts. The most notable Causeway Bay is for authentic Hong Kong cuisine with the atmosphere to match it. From local snacks along the Jardine’s Bazaar, Tang Lung and Matheson Street to illuminated 24-hour food stalls and from bars and sushi parlors along Sunning Road to the elegant restaurants at the Times Square, Theater Plaza on Percival and Paterson streets, Causeway Bay is the ultimate source for all native gourmets.
If all sorts of Asian cuisine is your preference, head towards Kowloon City. Formerly an industrial hub, Kowloon City gradually evolved into one of Hong Kong’s best Asian gourmet destinations. While the cuisine is dreamy and delicious, the prices are so low that you can savor a variety of cuisines in a single night without breaking your budget. Spicy South Asian dishes are offered alongside the sweet and sour Cantonese and Chiu Chow delights.
Lan Kwai Fong & SoHo are the places to check out when you long for some global delicacies. Once known as the “fringe central†because of its waterfront focus, La Kwai Fong is now a very casual and lively dining region. Specialties include Italian, French, Mexican, Middle Eastern and North American cuisine. Most restaurants are located along the shaded streets and open onto cobblestone streets, which provide the perfect atmosphere for alfresco dining. A little towards the western side from here, the South of Hollywood Road or SoHo, offers Indian, French, Nepalese, Mexican and Italian dishes in a range of bars and restaurants.
For freshly prepared seafood, head to Sai Kung, Lamma Island or Lei Yue Men. The beautiful setting is livened up by the best types of fish, lobsters, scallops and juicy prawns. A bit grander and elaborate than other food districts in Hong Kong, these will often require advanced booking. In comparison, Stanley, located on the southern side of town, offers a different atmosphere, with seafront alfresco and boutique beer options. It’s a relaxed dining area, with romance as its number one appeal.
The energetic and bustling Tsim Sha Tsui district is undoubetdly where you should be for an assortment of tastes, ranging from traditional Chinese to creative international cuisine. Szechuan Chinese is a favorite at the Miramar Shopping Center, while Knutsford Terraces & Steps serves a kaleidoscope of international dishes.
Finally, theres Hung Hom, the veritable specialty restaurants region. The stars are all Asian, snacks, full-course meals and a wonderful range of authentic Chinese gourmet.
Visiting Hong Kong’s fantastic food districts can take days for you to truly enjoy, so why not stay at an acclaimed hotel in Hong Kong and take your own good time savoring the dishes? You can choose any Hong Kong Island hotel, but check out Hotel Jen before you look for any other. As a hotel in Hong Kong, there’s no place to beat this one.

China receives a high number of tourism yearly; this has allowed the country to become one of the most interesting places to visit on a getaway escapade from a different lifestyle.
The best time to plan your travel to China is in spring (March – April) and autumn (September to October). Although highlands like Tibet, Yellow Mountains and Qinghai are best enjoyed during the hot summer period (June – September).
Now your next question would be “Where are the places of interest?â€
Being that the entire country has a vast landscape filled with beautiful attractions, I will briefly summarize the most interesting provinces to be visited with a list of things to see.
Beijing – This should be the first city to visit on your tour itinerary. Major tourist attractions include the ever popular and historical symbol of China- the Great Wall of China, The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace, The Ming Tombs and The Tiananmen Square- the largest city square in the world.

Happy Valley Racecourse
Â
Among the two revered racecourses in Hong Kong, Happy Valley Racecourse is the most popular and has an electric atmosphere surrounding it. The Happy Valley Racecourse is located on Hong Kong Island, accessible via the Wong Nai Chung and Morrison Hill roads.
Â
Resembling a Roman amphitheater, the Happy Valley Racecourse has high stands and tight tracks perfect for viewing horse races. Gambling on horse races is the most notable pastime in Hong Kong and it’s a very serious sport because of this. The impressive Happy Valley Racecourse is flooded with spectators on race days and the betting is always intensive. Parties hosted on the private racecourse balconies are a common sight and the elite social crowd enjoy the races from up there.
Â
Nighttime is the best to enjoy races at the Happy Valley Racecourse. The big bright lighting and chaotic air coupled with the giant 20×5.8 meter video screen presenting an up close view of the races, the racecourse is a humongous center of activity on race nights. Just as moneymaking has become Hong Kong’s favorite sport, horse racing at the Happy Valley Racecourse has become Hong Kong’s favorite moneymaking sport. The racecourse has been active since 1846 and the modern city was built around this great attraction.
Â
Besides the racing tracks, Happy Valley Racecourse is also home to another major horse racing attraction – the Hong Kong Jockey Club Archive & Museum. Also known as the Hong Kong Racing Museum, the building was constructed in 1995 as part of the grand stand and is located on the 2nd floor of the Happy Valley Stand. It was officially opened to the public in October 1996. The museum constitutes of four galleries, including The Origin Of Our Horses, Shaping Sha Tin, Understanding Horses and Themed Exhibitions. A cinema and souvenir shop also contributes to the museum’s appeal.
Â
The Happy Valley Racecourse is seen at its best during the racing season, so when you visit the racecourse, remember to book your hotel in Hong Kong well in advance. Finding a good Hong Kong Island hotel in the middle of the racing season can be difficult. So, it’s best to call and reserve your hotel in Hong Kong before you arrive.
Hong Kong Casinos

The Chinese love of gambling is well known; yet what is less well-known is that there are few casinos operating anywhere in China, including Hong Kong. The government of China has a somewhat negative attitude towards casinos, and gambling more generally, and discourages it wherever possible. Therefore, Hong Kong casinos get around this official prohibition in a number of ingenious ways.
Although there are no officially sanctioned Hong Kong casinos, gambling in Hong Kong is actually remarkably easy. The most obvious method of gambling is to go to nearby Macao; the former Portuguese enclave is only a short hydrofoil ride away, less than an hour from Hong Kong. In Macao, gambling is not only permitted, but it is the prime attraction for tourists visiting from Hong Kong and elsewhere. There is an official age limit of 21, and passports are required for the journey, but otherwise, Hong Kong gamblers will find the trip to Macao more than worthwhile – always provided they win, of course!
There are a large number of casinos in Macao that cater to every type of gambler, whether they are playing for high stakes or low, and however dressed. China is well aware that many people come to Macao for the gambling, including thousands of tourists from Hong Kong, and so China is happy to permit the sport to continue. Indeed, Chinese people are well known for their addiction to gambling of all sorts, and consequently, the casinos are almost always full.
Another aspect of the Hong Kong casino scene is offshore gambling, which allows Hong Kong tourists to gamble on board specially appointed cruise ships and boats in international waters off the coast of Hong Kong, thus getting around the rules that prevent the existence of Hong Kong casinos. Publicity for these cruises rarely features gambling very prominently, but nonetheless, there are many operators offering voyages that include the opportunity to gamble at leisure in an onboard casino. Of course, these journeys also offer the chance to enjoy spectacular views of Hong Kong harbor when entering and leaving the former colony. As a result, these voyages are extremely well subscribed to and growing in popularity every year. They are an enjoyable addition to the usual itinerary of the visitor to Hong Kong, and accordingly, there are plenty of opportunities for tourists visiting Hong Kong to enjoy the excitement and glamor of visiting a casino and indulging in this most Chinese of pastimes.
